ProtectDISC FAQ

1. How secure is ProtectDISC? Can it be copied? Can it be emulated? Hacked?

ProtectDISC is 100% secure against copying. Due to the special physical characteristica of the protect media it is physically impossible to copy a ProtectDISC protected CD/DVD.

Emulation is not possible with current versions. However, you may find programs that can emulate old ProtectDISC versions (before version 6).

Hacking is theoretically possible but very difficult and requires significant time and knowledge. The latest ProtectDISC releases have never been cracked. Generic cracks are 100% impossible.

2. What about the compatibility? Any known issues?

No! ProtectDISC does not have any known drive compatibility issues. However, like all software there may be some configurations that can cause problems - i.e. very limited memory, hardware defects, unstable drivers on the system, etc...

3. How can I test ProtectDISC with my application? Is is possible before production? Can I test the final version?

Sure! You can use the ProtectDISC Pre-Production environment to make sure everything works as expected. The final master does not need to be changed before sending to the replicator.

4. Who implements it? Can I do it? Is it all done by the replicator?

Applying ProtectDISC is a two step process. The executable needs to be secured against hacking attempts and the CD/DVD needs to be protected with the unique ProtectDISC fingerprint.

Both processes are fully automated. While the securing of the Executable can be done by the publisher or the replicator, the applying of the fingerprint is always done by the replicator.

5. What is the implementation effort? Both for development and QA?

The effort is very low. ProtectDISC can be applied manually or by command line usage directly in the build process - so the secured executable can be tested by QA. For QA itself nothing changes.

6. How can I test it? Can I get an evaluation version?

Yes. Just contact us to receive your evaluation version. You can also ask your CD manufacturer for this information.

7. How about updates? Will they work with the protection?

Absolutely! Any web updates will be protected the same way as the original program and will have the same protection. At no additional cost!

8. What about support? Both during implementation and after release?

We deliver full support for both implementation and second level for your support organisation.

9. Can I work with my current manufacturer?

Sure! ProtectDISC can be implemented by any manufacturer that makes it's own glass masters. Just contact us or your manufacturer.

10. What is the price?

Pricing is generally done by the CD/DVD manufacturer. Ask the maufacturer of your choice.
