ProtectDISC Video FAQ

1. How secure is ProtectDISC Video? Can it be copied? Can it be ripped? Can it be converted to a DivX, VCD, etc.?

A ProtectDISC Video protected Video-DVD cannot be digitally 1:1 copied by any software/hardware.

Although ripping is not prevented by hardware, no known tool available today is able to to this. Because ripping is not possible, conversions to DivX or VCD are also not possible.

2. What about the compatibility? Any known issues?

No! ProtectDISC Video does not have any known drive compatibility issues. However, like all software there may be some configurations that can cause problems - i.e. hardware defects, unstable drivers for software playback, etc...

3. How can I test ProtectDISC Video with DVD-Video? Is is possible before production? Can I test the final version?

ProtectDISC Video is applied by the replicator. Since no change is needed in the authoring, there is no need to test during the authoring process.

However, if you need to do final production QA, the manufacturer can send you pre-production samples. Ask your manufacturer for details.

4. Who implements it? Can I do it? Is it all done by the replicator?

Yes. ProtectDISC Video is applied on the completed disc image by the replicator. There is no need for any change in the authoring process.

5. What is the implementation effort? Both for authoring and QA?

Nothing. ProtectDISC Video is applied on the completed disc image by the replicator. There is no need for any change in the authoring process.

6. How can I test it? Can I get an evaluation version?

Yes. Just contact us to receive your evaluation version. You can also ask your manufacturer for this information.

7. How about CSS? Can I still use it? Do I have to use it?

ProtectDISC Video has nothing to do with CSS. You can use or not use it as you wish. However, using it may increase the production costs and CSS is known to be very unsecure..

8. What about support? Both during implementation and after release?

We deliver full support for both implementation and second level for your support organisation.

9. Can I work with my current manufacturer?

Sure! ProtectDISC Video can be implemented by any manufacturer. Just contact us or your manufacturer.

10. What is the price?

Pricing is generally done by the DVD manufacturer. Ask the maufacturer of your choice.
